Yom Ha'atzmaut Package Delivery and Visit with Seniors
Sun, Apr 30, 11:am-1:30 pm, Free

The heart of DOROT’s program is bringing Yom Ha’atzmaut to homebound and isolated seniors who once lived in Israel and who cannot get out easily to celebrate Israeli Independence Day with the community. On Sunday, April 30, we are bringing Yom Ha’atzmaut home to them, connecting Birthright Alumni and other DOROT volunteers who are in their 20s and 30s with these seniors to share their spirit for Israel and Jewish Peoplehood. These volunteers will connect with DOROT seniors who are either Israeli, born or raised in Israel/Palestine pre -1948, speak Hebrew or have an extensive Israeli history or relationship. The event will begin with volunteers attending an Israeli brunch at DOROT following an orientation.

Volunteers will assemble food packages of Israeli goods to bring a taste of Israel to DOROT seniors and talk about their Israel experiences. We will create meaningful experiences by sharing photos of the land and memories. The visit will be an hour long and DOROT will encourage relationships to continue. Seniors also will be invited to attend related events hosted by the JCC Manhattan.
